VP BRAINIAC II is your plugin of choice for fast transient grabbing of drums, vocals, and various other acoustic and percussive instruments. Inspired by a legendary VCA Compressor/Limiter, its ability to apply massive amounts of gain reduction without deforming the sound source makes it a must-have tool for any modern studio.
Thanks to its meticulously modeled VCA circuitry, VP BRAINIAC II excels at handling transient-heavy and highly dynamic sound sources. While Vari-Mu units are prized for their tube musicality, VCA designs offer faster attack and release times than any tube compressor. The unique Release Mode switch allows you to toggle between Linear and Logarithmic responses for more musical results. Additionally, it features the iconic peak reversion correction circuitry, which compensates for the loss of low-end during heavy compression—a common side effect in lesser designs.
First introduced in 1971 by Allison Research as the Gain Brain, the unit was a revolution in dynamic processing. Later revised with the Valley TA101 VCA as the Gain Brain II, it mastered the art of fast-grabbing compression while remaining musical. Using the principles of linear integration to analyze complex waveforms, this unique piece of studio history delivers sophisticated results through a simple control set. Antelope Audio brings this "Brainiac" directly to your DAW with all its original mojo intact.
